OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - AS Consulting

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

According to the International Labor Organization, over 2 million people worldwide die each year as a result of accidents at work, and over 270 million injuries occur at work. Therefore, it has been recognized need to approach the problem of safety and health at work at the international level, by controlling the risks that can lead to injuries or occupational diseases:

By improving the management system for occupational health and safety

Emphasizing the importance of safety and health at work for the organization

By considering topics related to safety and health at work within the organization

ISO 45001: 2018 is a new standard developed by the ISO organization for standardization, which specifies the requirements for the occupational health and safety management system and provides guidelines for their use. These organizations are enabled to provide a healthy and safe work environment by preventing injuries at work and occupational diseases.

ISO 45001: 2018 can be applied to any organization that wants to establish, implement and maintain an OH&S management system in order to improve the control of risks related to safety and health at work. It can be applied in any type of organization, regardless of the size or activity in which it is engaged.

This standard helps organizations achieve the planned outputs of their OH&S management system. In accordance with the OH&S policy, the planned outputs of this management system include:

ISO 45001 is based on a process approach while OHSAS 18001 is based on a procedural approach

ISO 45001 is dynamic at all points - OHSAS 18001 is not

ISO 45001 considers both risks and opportunities - OHSAS 18001 considers only risks

ISO 45001 includes stakeholder opinions - OHSAS 18001 not

The standard enables organizations to integrate, through the OH&S management system, other aspects related to safety and health at work, such as employee’s health / well-being.

The standard was issued in March, 2018.

The main change from OHSAS 18001 is that ISO 45001 focuses on the interactions between the organization and its business environment, while OHSAS 18001 focuses on managing OH&S hazards and other internal issues.

These changes bring significant modifications in the field of health and safety at work. This area is no longer viewed in isolation from the rest of the organization, but keeps up with changes and developments in the organization itself.
